Soap Box Hodgepodge

Joyce asks the questions and we answer.  Hop over to

1. March 9th is National Get Over It Day...what's something you need to 'just get over already'?

Oh there are several things that are out of my control that I need to release.  One of those is the "counter culture" goobligop.  And yet, see #3.

2. Something you're currently 'over the moon' about?

All 900+ of my granddaughter's new headshots.  There is no way to pick just one favorite or even the top ten because they were all amazing.  But this is the one I'm going to go with for this purpose.

Is she not the prettiest thing?

3. What's something you're 'chewing over' these days? (meaning-thinking over carefully)

Warning!  Sermon time

I read an article this morning about three men who are now considered comprising a "family," being given custody of two babies.  They were conceived through an egg donor and two surrogate mothers.  The CNN article called them "one extraordinary household."  And this my friend will become the norm, where polyamory is normal and any kind of "family" should create and raise children in any way they wish.  Parents are also encouraged to allow schools to subjugate their authority over their children.  Why?  Because we aren't equipped to make those important decisions.  And after all, children have the right to make decisions regarding their own best interests.

God's Word instructs us repeatedly to overcome evil with good; however, there is so much evil in our society and around the world.  What is good is called evil and evil is called good.  The new culture denies there is truth, and instead tolerance has become our highest cultural value.  Yet, those who declare truth, are not tolerated.

As Christian believers, what are we supposed to do?  God's Word doesn't give us a choice.  We need to stand in the gap as examples and not yield to this 21st Century brand of morality.  We must point out evil when we are confronted with it, while also living holy and Christ-like lives ourselves.

During the darkest hours of World War II for Great Britain, Prime Minister Winston Churchill addressed his alma mater Harrow School with one of the most famous quotes:

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

These powerful words should also encourage and embolden us as it did the Brits to stand strong and firm on our convictions and what we know to be truth. Evil never changes, it just finds more ways.

4. The last thing you cooked or ate that was overdone?

I overcooked meat patties for brunch last week.

5. In celebration of hitting volume 411 in the weekly Hodgepodge, give us the 411 on something happening in your life in the next 30 days.

The end of the month I will be going to spend a few days with my sisters.  Instead of the regular three hours, it will now be a six hour drive, but I am looking so forward to having time with them.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Besides living with integrity, consistency and compassion for others, we are called to pray and work for the spiritual awakening that will change hearts and minds.

  3. Libby,

I so loved your sermon! There truly is so much evil in the world. It's sad to see the moral decay with each generation to the point we're seeing today. I see the truth in the wickedness of others and I shall never back down from my beliefs. God's word is coming to pass but it's still our responsibility to raise our children in Christ and to share the gospel with the lost. Have a good time with your sisters. Thanks for sharing your answers today!
