Sons, Daughters, and Great Grandsons

Summer has come to North Central Texas today with a high of 98, so we decided to enjoy it from the flight deck and watch "Top Gun Maverick" do his thing.  To prepare for the new movie, we watched the original a couple nights ago.  We were so glad we did because we had forgotten so much about the story and characters.  Having this role created for Val Kilmer "Ice" made it for me.  We do recommend the movie; it was excellently done.  And, it's more fun with friends.

Thank you Joyce for this week's fun Hodgepodge questions.

1.  "A daughter's a daughter all her life, but a son's a son till he takes a wife."  What say you?  Elaborate.

I choose to elaborate from my own personal experience.

My daughter will always be my daughter and my son will always be my son.  John and I and his dad have always been very close, so when he met Michelle, loving and making her our daughter too, was never an option.  She is truly our daughter-in-love.  Thankfully, she embraced that love and has given it back 100 fold.  They have involved us in every step of theirs and their children's lives, even living with us for a year after Katrina drove them from New Orleans.

One big secret for the mother-in-law, is never give your son/daughter reason to choose between you and their spouse - you will and should always lose.  It is not a competition!

Dick and I give God all the glory for blessing both our children with His perfect mate for them.

2.  Something you've seen recently that was 'cuter than a June bug'?

3.  'You can't buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream and that's pretty much the same thing.'  Agree or disagree?  Last time you had a serving of happiness ice cream?  Dish-cone-milkshake-sundae...which one do you choose?

Disagree!  I find it crazy that anyone would think to use ice cream and happiness in the same sentence.

The last time I ate ice cream was probably over a year ago.  We were indulging ourselves nightly with a fudgesicle, so that had to be stopped.  A Wendy's Frosty, does sound good right now, though.

4.  What is one way/area in which you're currently 'swimming against the tide'?

I do everything to avoid that situation; however, my hip issue is still persistent inspite of a steroid injection last week.

5.  Three things you're looking forward to this summer?

#1.  A trip to Indiana to meet Baby Jax!
#2.  Spending time with Baby Landon and as many granddaughters as possible
#3.  Early morning workouts in the pool

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

Speaking of Baby Landon - he was 2 months on the 6th and is growing like a weed and is so full of the sweetest expressions.

His mom says he...
Likes: smiling, tummy time, looking in the mirror, singing songs with mom, tummy raspberries with daddy, Lovevery mat, and going out to dinner!
Dislikes: getting out of the bathtub, gas bubbles, changing clothes, and shots at the dr!

May the rest of your week be blessed.
