Wellness Wednesday #4

Everything I am going to include in this post has to do with overall wellness.  Nothing makes me feel more alive than when I spend time with my family.  Let me share some of our time together this past weekend and what is going on in Colorado.

Dallas

On Monday's blog post, I showed how Granddaughter Cassidy and I spent our Saturday.  Check it out HERE!

Sunday, began by attending a wonderful worship service at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano.

That afternoon, we went to Willow Bend Mall for another performance of

"The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."

But first, I had a special lady to meet.

I first met Connie, or Nonnie as she is known on her blog, a few years back on Joyce's

Wednesday Hodgepodge.

I liked her immediately and knew we had a common bond in Jesus Christ.  We have continued to stay in touch through our blogging and talked often of one day meeting when I was in the Dallas area.

It worked out that we were able to spend some time visiting before the play began.  It was like meeting an old friend.  She is as sweet and beautiful inside and out as I knew she would be.  This was such a special treat for me.

She was able to watch the first half of the play with me and meet my family.  I am so grateful for this opportunity and look forward to future visits with my new friend.

She and four of her classmates were all in the play and two of their fifth grade teachers came to see them perform.  Such a meaningful thing for these thoughtful teachers to do.

 With her director, Christian Black, who has been so supportive of Ava Grace.

 Her sisters and brother-in-law are some of her biggest fans. 

Afterward, we went to Frisco to The Biscuit Bar, which is a new establishment owned by friends of our daughter and her husband.  It is such a neat place and oh my goodness, the best biscuits you will ever eat.

There is a wide assortment of fillings for the biscuits and you can't go wrong with any of them.  And the tater tots are so good.

It was a great ending to a great day.

Colorado

Wonderful news coming out of Glendale, CO.

Our Jackson, played a great game on Saturday night and in fact made the winning points to win the game for the West.  You see his name listed above as one of the point scorers.

As a result, he was selected as one of the 30 2018 USA Rugby Collegiate All-American Team.  He is the big guy in blue on the far right of the picture above.

He is spending the rest of this week working hard to not only compete for 1st or 2nd Team All-American honors, but to play against the Raptors, a pro team on Friday night.  Geaux Jackson!

While Jackson is working hard, his dad and granddad are entertaining themselves by eating well, and exploring interesting places.

Today, they took a trip to Idaho Springs and enjoyed feeding some frisky chipmunks in their laps while waiting to go into the mines.

 This duo is having the time of their life watching our Big Boy excel and spending time together.

Yes, being with family and new friends is what "Wellness Wednesday" is all about.

I can't recall how I came across this blog, but I think it may have been fate.  Sean of the South is a writer.  But not just a writer.  He is mostly a story teller.  The story I'm sharing with you today struck a cord with me because it's about a young man who lives in a town where I used to live - Houma, Louisiana.

Feeding the Mind

Ok, I might have fudged a bit with this heading, because what I am sharing with you not only feeds the mind, but also the soul and spirit.

FAMILY

Tomorrow, Dick and I are going our separate ways.  Literally, not figuratively.

At 10:00 AM, I will leave him at the Terminal at Love Field in Dallas to fly to meet our son and grandson in Denver for a few days.  I will then drive a little piece to our daughter's house to spend those same few days with her and the family.

Grandson Jackson has been selected as one of 50 of the country's best college Rugby players from the East to join 50 others from the West.  It is going to be an exciting time when these best of the best college athletes meet up for this elite USA Rugby Men's Collegiate All-American Selection Camp in Glendale, Colorado.

I am thrilled that Dick will be there with John to watch Jackson in this most brutal, hard-to-watch, violent sport.  Geaux BIG BOY!  We are so proud of you.

In the meantime, I will be getting to see my Dallas daughter and three granddaughters.  I am especially looking forward to seeing the youngest, Ava Grace in the North Texas Performing Arts performance of...

I am also looking forward to meeting my first Great Grand Dog.  Chandler and Brad adopted a Golden Retriever this weekend, Sampson Cunningham.

So, these next few days will definitely be a time of feeding our mind, our body, and our souls.

The Sound of Family!

How about a photo recount of our wonderful weekend in the company of our Dallas Grands!

Our youngest Grand played the part of Louisa in the North Dallas Performing Arts production of "Sound of Music"

Let me just tell you what a trooper she is.  She started the night not feeling well and before she could get completely off the set after her opening number, she literally threw up, necessitating the alternate Louisa to finish the 1st half of the play.

During intermission, when she realized that we could not come back the next day to see another performance, she said, "Then I will finish!"  And she did and did a great job.

  

A sister came all the way from Fayetteville, AR to see her.

After this kiss, she looked at her sisters and said, "You might not have wanted to do that!!"

Fortunately no one else was sick the next morning.

We are so proud of the long hours of rehearsal and Ava Grace's dedication to give over and above to every part she plays, as well as everything she is involved in.

Saturday morning it was our pleasure to take the three older Grands plus a husband and a boyfriend to brunch at "Ida Claire's" in Dallas.

Outside there is this little Air Stream decorated with a Moroccan theme with small tables for intimate dining.  So cute, but too small for us.

We ate in the outdoor garden and the weather could not have been more perfect.

Oh my goodness, was the food delicious and so beautifully presented.

We met Emily's friend, David for the first time and were very impressed with this fine young man.

We love these wonderful, smart, independent, productive young people so much and enjoy every minute in their company. 

And is it necessary to add that they are bunches of fun?

Being Grandparents to a Little Actress

The greatest joy of being a grandparent is having grandchildren!

I know that sounds redundant.

So, I will clarify.

The greatest joy of being a grandparent is enjoying your grandchildren.

And that we do!

The latest enjoyment was watching our youngest, Ava Grace, play Michael in the

North Dallas Performing Arts performance of Elf Jr.

They didn't have ennough little boys to play that role, so guess who was assigned and played the part to perfection.

In case you aren't familiar with the story of Elf, I will just let the pictures tell the story.

 On this particular weekend, the play was held in downtown Carrollton, Texas, in an old converted movie theater.  A perfect place for a small theater.

 This adorable little 11 year old girl made the cutest little boy.

I wish I had a video of the song Micheal and Mom sang.  It was so good.

Such good dynamics between these two.

Cassidy finished her final finals at the University of Texas Austin in order to make the final performance.

These two young actors made the show so much fun and they loved acting together. 

And Michael was glad to wrap up her final performance after a busy, busy two weeks.
