1. Please share a favorite July 4th memory with us.
I think perhaps the most memorable was back in 1990 when we took my parents on a two-week vacation trip to Colorado and New Mexico.
We were in Creed, Co for the big July 4th Parade. It doesn't get any more "down home" than this. We loved it!
Being from Louisiana we found the "Cajun Embassy" float fun. People all over holler "throw me some Mister!" and scramble for the beads.
This old truck was loaded with mountain men, hunting dogs and their trophies.
The parade participants would get to the end of the street and turn around so we got to see everything twice. The Creede Repertoire Theater entertained us both ways with their Kazoo Band.
2. How do you plan to spend tomorrow? If you are working, will you celebrate later?
We don't have any plans for celebrating the day at this time. We may decide to take a road trip and let someone else cook for us. Who knows!
3. Is there a favorite food always reserved for your 4th of July celebration?
No, we don't have any traditions for celebrating this day.
4. In Florida, you can buy all kinds of fireworks, including some that fly high and burst into pretty cascades. Are fireworks legal in your state/community and does anyone you know put on a display for your neighborhood?
Yes, fireworks are a huge money making business in our state and city. Our city puts on a very big fireworks display on the Red River. We have only been once and that was enough.
The nearby country club does a large display as well, and we usually sit on our front porch and enjoy it.
There are several families in our neighborhood who do very large and noisy firework displays. The booms will go on until well past approved cut-off times.
5. Do you have a favorite movie that you always watch sometime during the 4th of July?
For many years we always watched the Boston Pops perform on TV, but am not sure they even do that any more.
6. Share something from your week, please.
Our Indiana family was down visiting our daughter-in-law's family for the week. They live in the central part of our state, but were in our city doing something for her dad. John picked up some good Cajun food and they all came by our house for supper. It was so good to see them even for a few minutes even though we were up there only a short time ago.
Today (Wednesday) we will be attending the funeral of a former pastor and great friend where we served together for 22 years.
I love this picture of Dick and Bro. Mac from 1979.
We thank God for the opportunity to serve with and know such a fine, godly family. Bro. Mac's sole desire was to win the lost and serve His Lord among the people God gave him to serve.
We love you, Bro. Mac and look forward to seeing you again soon.
A few pictures from last weekend.

Welcome, I’m Libby

Thank you for visiting my blog. I live in Plano, Texas where my husband and I are very involved in being happy senior adults. You will find that my blog reflects our lives and activities as well as the goings-on of our two grown children and ten grandchildren. There may even be something the Lord leads me to compose and share. Needless to say, we stay busy and sharing our busyness with you makes me happy. I do hope you will stop by and share a cup of tea with me often.

I love a good parade and that one in Colorado looks like a lot of fun! My dad, who instilled the love of parades in me, would have enjoyed that one, I think.
ReplyDeleteMy sympathies on the loss of your friend, but rejoicing with you that he is in heaven with the Father today.
Enjoy your 4th whatever you end up doing!
Ahh - hope its a wonderful celebration of life today for that funeral
ReplyDeleteThe Boston Pops are doing their show as always, but I don’t see a listing for it on TV this year. Pity, I enjoy their concerts.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun memories of the 4th! Love the pic of the flag! Have a great 4th!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place to be on the 4th of July! I never heard of Creed, Colorado, but I do love Colorado. We took our parents for a vacation to Colorado in 1976, and they loved it! I bet there were a lot of people who met your Bro. Mac when he arrived to say thank you! We always are sorry for the loss of a friend or loved one, but happy to rejoice they are with Jesus.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great memory! That sounds like so much fun! Loved your answers! Have a Happy 4th of July!

Well, that looks like a parade I would enjoy. What fun! We have no big plans for tomorrow either. We are joining two other couples for dinner at the club but that will be the extent of our festivities and that quite alright with me. :o))
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining the Medley today and sharing your memories and photos with us! That parade was something! Our town doesn't do a parade but they do put on a big fireworks show. Happy 4th!!
ReplyDeleteWatching fireworks from the comfort of your home is the best! I haven't seen a full fireworks display in a while, as my youngest has been afraid. We'll see if this year is any different!
ReplyDeleteThat 4th of July memory from Colorado looked like so much fun! May you have a safe and happy Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteThat parade looks so fun! They actually went to the end of the street and then turned around?! I love that! Now that's a small town parade! I hope you have a happy and safe Fourth!
