Dine With Me

Happy Monday to you!
I look forward to sharing my Miscellany Monday thoughts with you today.

The ladies of my church enjoyed a wonderful night of food and fellowship on Saturday night at our traditional "Dine With Me" evening.
I want to share with you some of the gorgeous tables that were decorated by the ladies themselves based on a scripture verse of their choosing.  The interpretations were beautifully and creatively done.
It was truly a lovely evening!

"Go ye therefore and teach all nations..."  Matthew 18:19

"I have come that they may have life and have it abundantly"  John 10:10b

Oh taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusts in Him."  Psalm. 34:8

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised."  Proverbs 31:30

"Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin.  And yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these."  Matthew 6:28-29

"For the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden cause seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations."  Isaiah 61:11

1 Corinthians 3:16-17

"The grass withers, the flowers fade, but the Word of our God remains forever."

"Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not of more value than they?"  Matthew 6:26

"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all you lands."  Psalm 100:1

An added touch of fancy!

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law."  Galatians 5:22-23

A great time was had by all!

Golf, Hats, Mirrors, and Friends

This is my first time to join Joyce for Wednesday Hodgepodge.  I look forward to joining other bloggers for this weekly posting.

1. Have you ever played golf? Any interest in playing? Do you have a significant other who loves to play? Did you watch The Masters this past weekend?
I did take golf one semester in college, but have no interest in playing whatsoever.  Hubby has played but his philosophy is,"Why do something for relaxation that creates stress?"  Therefore, he does not play golf.  Our son and son-in-law are both avid golfers and SIL is what we might call addicted - actually, he just loves the sport and is quite good.

2. Hats are back in fashion this spring...how do you feel about wearing a hat? (fyi-I'm not talking baseball caps) When was the last time you wore one?
Well, lets see.  The last time I actually wore a hat for dress purposes was 1964.  I was in college and wore one for Easter that year.   I wore this large brim sun hat the year our whole family vacationed together in Florida, but it looked so much better on my adorable little Ava Grace.  I do still occasionally wear it when working outside.

3. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 meaning proficient and 1 meaning "I'd starve", how adept are you at using chopsticks?
1 - No doubt, I would STARVE!

4. Has technology taken over?
Oh yes indeed it has.  When I worked, I was always on the computer for reports, research, data, communication, etc.  Now that I am retired, I find that I am either checking emails, doing Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest for recipes and ideas, texting, or reading on either my desktop, IPad, or IPhone all during the day.  I even use an old phone for audiobooks at the gym.  I'm afraid we take for granted technology that is used in almost every avenue of our lives from church to school to shopping and even the alarm.  So yes, I'd say we're hooked!

5. In the course of a day how often do you look in a mirror?
Consciously?   Only when I'm dressing or doing makeup.  But, I love to decorate with mirrors and have several in my house.  I can't walk into my bath without facing a large mirror.  So, I probably gaze into a mirror many times a day without even being aware of the reflection.

6.Tulip or Daffodil?
They are both so pretty and represent Spring, but I think I'll say Tulip.
7. I am proud of myself for accomplishing the things I was able to do at each new administrative position I held.  I am proud of myself for adapting so quickly to retirement.  And I'm proud of my first HOA Newsletter I edited this month.  Of course, I did not do any of this alone.  "I am nothing without Christ!"

8. Insert your own random thought here.
We had our special neighbor friends over for dinner last night.  We always enjoy spending time with them and sharing a meal together.  This is the first time we have had friends next door that we exchanged door keys and felt free to go over and borrow something if one of us wasn't home.  We share food and take out each others garbage and pick up the mail when we're out of town.  We know we can "borrow" a bedroom when out-of-town company spills over.  These are special friends indeed for whom we are so grateful.

Easter Reflections

This is a late Miscellany Monday posting for me, but after a full Sunday and late evening as well as an equally late Monday morning at the gym, I'm just now getting to the computer.  But, I'm looking forward to sharing with you some "miscellany" this morning.

Easter Worship
Yesterday was a wonderful day of praise and worship of a Savior who was willing to die that I might know forgiveness and salvation.  It was a day of praise and worship of a Savior who did not stay in the tomb, but arose that I might have eternal life with Him forever.

The music in our worship service was spectacular.  I am playing handbells again
after many years and was thrilled as we joined the fabulous organ, brass and tympani for the congregational singing and choir anthem.  My heart was especially stirred as our organist finalized our time of worship with Widor's Toccata from Symphony No. 5.
Thank you Sherry for this beautiful offering.

Easter Birthday
Yesterday was our oldest grandchild's 19th birthday.  Our Chandler has always brought such joy and boundless love to our lives.  It has been such a pleasure to watch her grow into the beautiful young woman that she is today.  She has devoted her life to pleasing her Lord which makes her as beautiful inside as she is on the outside.  We thank God for these 19 years with this precious person and look forward to what the Lord has in store for her in the future.
Happy Birthday Chandler!
Granddog
We had the pleasure of keeping one of our granddogs this week while her family vacationed.  Lexi is a well bred, healthy, and highly intelligent dog.  She is as close to royalty as this family will get.  She is a Welsh Corgi - the same breed Queen Elizabeth has many of.  I love this old picture of the Queen as a young girl with her favorite dogs.

Happy Monday to you and thanks for joining me for my miscellany thoughts.

Family, Shopping, Seafood, and Basketball

It is the end of a wonderful weekend and time to think about teaming up with Carissa and Miscellany Monday.  I look forward to joining all the other bloggers who will be posting on this Monday morning.

This was the weekend Hubby and I look forward to all year long.  It is when our two children bring their families together with us for a few precious hours.  We are never disappointed and are left wishing the time wasn't so short and the distance between us not so far.

FAMILY
These are our seven wonderful grandchildren who love their time together.  There is never a dull moment around these diverse personalities and temperaments.  And there is never a shortage of loving with these close cousins.

Because our oldest granddaughter will be 19 on Easter Sunday, we had an Italian Cream Cake for desert. However, since this is the only time we will all be together this year, we celebrated everyone's birthday. We added a candle to Strawn's famous strawberry and chocolate pies and sang "Happy Birthday" to three of us at a time.  Everyone had a turn to blow out a candle.  What fun!  And what delicious deserts!

SHOPPING
We have a new boutique in town that we discovered this weekend.  It is the neatest young women's store with some really cute clothes.  While we were in the dressing room area, I noticed on a table a copy of "Radical" by David Platt and then a binder for Prayer Requests.  I found this most unusual and began to look around at other things.  I then found the above posted explaining the Mission of this delightful store.  Besides being impressed with this and the friendly manner of the clerks, my granddaughter found two perfect dresses.
See one below.

SEAFOOD

Our Indiana family's main request when visiting their Louisiana home is for good seafood.  After a morning of worship we found the best seafood in Shreveport.  We had boiled crayfish, fried catfish, alligator and oysters, plus wonderful etouffee.  M-E learned to peel a mudbug but refused to eat one.

BASKETBALL
Both our favorite teams will face each other in the Final Four on Tuesday night:
Baylor and Notre Dame.

What exciting games they played to get to this point but it's got to be BAYLOR all the way!
GEAUX BEARS!
