Springing Forward

After a Spring Break, it is good to be back with Joyce and the
group.

1. Setting aside the real March Madness (NCAA Basketball) describe something happening at your house this month that might earn the title 'March Madness'?

I think the costs to get our yard and flower beds back in shape could definitely be considered  maddening.  We have seen more new weeds in our yard than ever before this spring.  Even the contracted yard service people have not been able to get rid of all of them.  Also, our crepe myrtle trees have contracted the dreaded CM disease and to keep it from killing them, they must be treated yearly.  Well that cost is definitely distressful.  And then there are the costs for adding new flowers to freshen up the outside and patio.  It's all worth it in the end, but not fun to shell out all at one time.

2. What's a favorite made up word from your childhood or a favorite from your children's childhood? Does your family still use the word today? If there's a story behind the origin please share.

Our family word would be "Sussy."  It simply stands for anything special, like giving a gift, or something unexpected.  I'm not sure when it started or how, but I've used it since our children were born.

3. Will you be doing any spring cleaning now that the season is upon us? I read here a list of 15 quick (under one hour) spring cleaning tasks. They were-

clean out a drawer, vacuum furniture, whiten tile grout, dust the nooks and crannies you don't get to year round, degrease kitchen cabinets, wipe down walls, go behind furniture, wipe down ceiling fans, vacuum the mattress, clean the range hood, wash baseboards, shine the stainless steel, clean out vents, tackle the windows, and wipe down gadgets

Of the fifteen 'quick' tasks listed which two most need doing at your house? Will you do them?

They would be tackle the windows and wipe down ceiling fans.  Yes, at some point.  In fact, I have already started on the windows in the sunroom.  You inspired me!

4. A favorite movie set in Paris or New York?

Set in Paris would be "An American in Paris" with Gene Kelly
Set in New York would be several of my absolute favorite movies:
"West Side Story," Sleepless in Seattle," "You've Got Mail," and of course "Breakfast at Tiffany's"

5. What's put a spring in your step this month?

I think it would be spending fun times with family and friends.  We made a road trip with good friends and also got to see our daughter and her family.  That always makes me happy.

6. Did you ever want to be a teacher? Why or why not?

Yes, at one time and even claimed it as a major in college for a few semesters.  It didn't last long.  I substituted right after getting married, and again my decision to not teach was confirmed.  That being said, I did teach preschool choir in our churches for forty years and have taught women's Sunday School classes through the years, if that counts.

7.  What's your favorite floral scent? Do you have this somewhere in your home or maybe in a perfume? How do you feel about florals in food? How about wines with floral notes-yay or nay?

I do not care for floral scents so have none in my home or on person.  I am not much of a wine drinker and certainly not a connoisseur. I do not care for the stronger reds but instead prefer an occasional sweet Zinfandel wine.  Now whether any of those are considered florals, I have no idea.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

Speaking of florals!
Dick and I love fresh flowers in our home.  And nothing says "SPRING" any more than pretty flowers.

We have a new Kroger grocery store near us and I learned that they drastically reduce the price of their older flowers.  Yesterday, I found these beautiful red roses and added them to an existing arrangement to brighten up both our dining table and coffee table.
Don't you love the way the morning sun highlights the crystal and flowers?

YES, Welcome Spring!

  2. Ok...I'm going to have to check out our local Kroger to see if they do the same thing with their flowers. Now that spring has sprung, I need flowers in my life! So pretty, Libby! So happy you got to spend some time with friends and your daughter...nothing better, is there?

  3. I love the fresh flowers brightening your home! I need to do that more often. A couple weeks ago our son and DIL brought me a bouquet of flowers for no reason at all, and it was such a delight! It is so sad when there's a plant/shrub/tree disease going through. We have so few elms in our area remaining. They were so beautiful. I hope you have a lovely Wednesday.

  6. I can't stand flowers in the house, mostly due to allergies. It took the man forever to get this. He thinks whatever his mother liked, I should like. And I say, nope not gonna happen. LOL I do love admiring their beauty from afar, however. Especially the spring colors. My best friend in these parts is never without fresh flowers in her house. Her husband makes sure of it. They've been married over 30 years and he still calls her his bride. They're so cute. :) While being a stay at home mom for 20+ years, I taught Sunday School and then taught at the elementary school once the girls were up and out. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  7. You reminded me of how it was at my old house come spring. Goodness by the time I got things cleaned up and fresh flowers in all my pots by the pool, and hauled away dead stuff it was a HUGE job. I don't miss the work, but I sure do miss all the flowers and the lovely way it looked. I have a HUGE HUGE fetish for fresh flowers. Everyone who knows me has teased me about it. But I just love them. Something about it just seems soo homey or something. Your roses are beautiful, and YES they look very pretty there with all the crystal and the sun making them glisten. Enjoy your day!

  8. Your table is beautiful and I love fresh flowers inside, too, but so expensive. Thanks for the tip about Kroger's. I need to check into that at our store. The roses with your crystal are gorgeous. I definitely believe teaching Sunday School counts! Thank you for your sweet comments to me and for prayers for my husband. You are a "sussy" lady! :-)

  9. Well, hope you get everything squared away in your yard and patio. Tommy and our yard man worked hard today and got things pretty much finished up. I'll be posting the results soon. Love, love your tablescape!!!
