Back In the Desert Again...

I have missed a few Wednesday Hodgepodge postings of late, but am glad to be back. I miss it when I'm unable to participate.
1. Have you ever been to and/or lived near the desert? What did you think? Travel and Leisure lists the 'coolest' American desert towns as-

Palm Springs CA, Virgina City NE, Bend OR, Winslow AZ, Marfa TX, Grand Junction CO, Silver City NM, Moab UT, Taos NM, Yakima WA, Borrego Springs CA, Terlingua TX, and St. George UT, and Tubac AZ

Have you been to any of these? Would you like to visit a desert town? Which on the list would you most like to see

We have been to deserts in Colorado and New Mexico including two of the "coolest" towns listed above, Taos and Grand Junction.  We also, drove through some of the deserts between Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon.  I enjoyed the sparse beauty from a distance would never want to live in or near a desert.

I don't think I would want to visit any of the other ones listed.

2. What's a plan or project you've deserted in the past year?

My plan to paint more.  I had hoped to keep something going most of the time, but it hasn't happened.

3. Desert-dessert? Share two or three words you find yourself having to think twice about when it comes to spelling.

Thorough is the main one that stops me.

4. High and dry, like watching paint dry, dry run, dry as dust, not a dry eye in the house...which phrase can you relate to currently? Explain.

I guess I will have to go with "dry as dust" because we haven't had rain here in almost a month.  Here it is almost October and we are still having to use our sprinkler system.

5. How often do you frequent the dry cleaners? Starch or no starch?

Rarely!  I do have a few seasonal items that require professional cleaning but I don't wear them very often.  Since Hubby hardly ever wears a suit these days, and I iron all his shirts and pants, we just don't need to go.

6. What's a food or beverage you enjoy that's named for a place?

I can't think of anything right now.  But, a drink I enjoy that is named for a person is the

Arnold Palmer.  He will be missed.

7. Do you need solitude?

ABSOLUTELY!  And a lot of it.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
I have enjoyed recanting our trip to the Smokey Mountains on my blog recently and in case you missed them and want to see some interesting highlights, go

If you are an art buff, you will especially enjoy Part 3.

Warning!
My daughter told me the other day that with her permission her soon-to-be ten year old googled her own name.  To our shock and amazement, my blog and every picture I have posted of her on it came up.  I have not ever used her whole name.  This has been rather disconcerting to all of us and may serve as a matter of information to those of you who post pictures of your children and grands.  I am going to think twice before posting pictures of them in the future.

  1. That is scary about googling your daughter's name. My husband doesn't want me posting anything about our children on my blog for that reason. Sometimes it is hard because everyone loves seeing photos of kids and hearing about them, but I understand his reasons. I like an Arnold Palmer drink too. Have a great week :)

  2. Your random is very interesting and kinda scary. Thank you for sharing that. I'm glad you want to keep painting. We really need rain here in California. Enjoy the rest of you week.

  3. That is very frightening about your granddaughter googling her own name. I think we all would be scared out of our minds if we Googled ourselves and our kids.

On Sunday, we went to a wedding, and at the reception, besides wine, they had lemonade and iced tea. My husband couldn't decide which he wanted, so he took a bit of both and made himself the legendary Arnold Palmer. It was only an hour or so later that we heard he had passed away.

    Blessings on your week,

  4. That is exactly why Windy will not allow HB and AK's faces to be shown on my blog. It really is scary but tons and tons of folks do it everyday. Dick should give The Voice a try, it's quite good and I like that it's all singing.

  6. Well, that's interesting, about the Google search. I do a search frequently because of my blog and haven't had similar results for myself, my daughters, or my granddaughter. Hmmm... I taught technology in an elementary school and covered digital citizenship and internet safety to the point where the kids said they could teach it themselves. LOL Anyway, I'm going to check into this with some internet savvy friends as I frequently post about safe tips. Glad you put this out there!

  7. I am a fellow Hodgepodger whose site was listed next to yours on Joyce's site. I could not agree more with being careful about what you post online. I don't post pictures of my grandchildren or anything not meant for general consumption. I've learned that the internet is like spoken words. Once they're out there you cannot get them back. I enjoyed reading your answers.

  8. I am not at all bothered by pictures of my grandchildren being on my blog. The more we use the Internet the more this is going to happen. We no longer live in the world of complete privacy. We have to make our choices. I don't want to go back to a world without my computer. But, I was curious so I Googled each one of my grandchildren to see what would show up. Nothing showed up from my blog. And of the three only one picture showed up, under images, and it was posted by the school of my grandson when he was at a wrestling tournament. I love the Smokey Mountains and will go back and read your posts.

  10. We love Arnold Palmers here. I'm hoping to read the rest of your Smoky Mountain recap. Trying to catch up on last week's HP posts as best I can. I never used my kids names, but they both have blogs and used their own names there. I still refer to them as daughter1 and daughter2 : ) I think even without names anyone can find anything without trying too awfully hard. The world is a wide open book now which is a little frightening.
