Colorful Anticipation

After a long hot, humid summer, we southerners look forward to Fall with its brisk mornings and clear blue skies.

In our neighborhood and I'm sure many neighborhoods throughout the south, there are fall festivals to welcome the season.  There are home entry decorating competitions.  There may not be a prize, but just let me tell you, there is competition.

But, the thing that takes center stage in our area are the Bradford Ornamental Pear trees.

Their color is brilliant reds and oranges; however it is short lived.

These trees are directly across the street from us and we enjoy them more than the homeowners.

And then a week after I took these pictures, they look like this.
And this is what is left of the colorful fall in the south.
Today is the first day of December and with it comes even more bare trees but full and busy days.

May your December be full of excitement and anticipation of what is to come.

  3. Just stunning for sure! We have leaves knee deep in our yard and just mulched them last week. Never ending job but we will have NO trees at the new house so that will mean NO leaves. Happy week!

  5. Libby, how ironic that you posted this! My husband and I came to Louisiana, to spend Thanksgiving with the girls. The first thing I mentioned, when we crossed the state line, was that the trees actually had color! We went from 90's one day, to freezing; and the leaves just fell off! Lol!
