Hodgepodging About A Lot Of Things

After being away from Wednesday Hodgepodge for a week
(that will be discussed later),
it is good to be back hodgepodging with my fellow bloggers.

1. Do you manage your own money or do you have a financial planner who helps in some way? Do those kinds of conversations stress you out? A lot or a little?

Yes, we have a financial planner which relieves much of the stress of trying to do it ourselves.  But, on the other hand, I do not understand much of what is going on and feel stressed to think there may not anything there when I need it.  Hubby and Chase (our young, handsome adviser) assure me I will be taken care of and that is comforting.  Besides, my future is not in the hands of the adviser or the stock market.  Thank you Jesus!.

2. The second week of October is Pet Peeve Week. Off the top of your head, share TWO of your current pet peeves.

Car handlers who occupy space on the roadway who are oblivious and void of any driving skill; people in positions of customer service who have no idea what customer service is.

3. What is one thing you'd like to learn right now, this very week if you could

How to be a really good painter.

4. How concerned are you about the recent health related news concerning Ebola? How about Enterovirus D68?

Both of these concern me greatly, not to the point of fear, but because I see the lack of concern and prior planning on the part of our government.  The incident in Dallas is a prime example that we are not prepared and are not in a strong position to fight it. To send 3,000 warriors to another country to try to accomplish what thousands of others who have been on site for years have not been able to do, and at the same time leaving our borders open and in-coming immigrants untested just makes no sense to me and reassures me that the powers-that-be have no clue.  This causes my greatest concern.

5. Garfield, Nemo, or Tigger-your favorite orange cartoon character?

I love the sarcasm and aloofness of Garfield and the sweetness of Tigger.  That may tell you something about me too, huh.

6. I'm going to see Gone Girl with my neighborhood book club this week. So often books made into film are disappointing. What's a book turned film you thought was well done, in that the casting was 'like you pictured' when you read the book, and the film plot remained mostly true to the book plot?

7. What is one story your family always tells about you?

My sisters and I share many interesting stories about each other.  Being the oldest and not being against taking advantage of my younger, easy-going sister, I did some not so kind things to her.  But, she especially loves to tell the story of the night she found me completely relaxed in our new 50's round framed chair.  It was just like this one except it had a solid red stretched canvas.

Well, this sneaky little sister of mine crawled under the furniture to reach me and stuck a pin into my bottom.  I liked to have never figured out what happened, but later learned that the whole family was in on her revenge.  We still get quite a laugh out of that.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

A week ago today I had right foot surgery involving the removal of a neuroma between toes two and three, tendon stretched and hammer-toe corrected of 2nd toe (notice cute little eyeball pin), big toe broken and straightened and bunion shaved off.  Yes, it was a bit painful the first few days and pain meds helped greatly.  I don't like those things so got off them as soon as I could.

My sis was here to keep me company and I can't tell you how much we enjoyed being together.  We three sisters always try to be there for each other and that is comforting.  That being said, Hubby has been great and most helpful.  I have insisted he go to the office every morning which gives me an opportunity to do some things for myself (yes, you could call that independence if you want to), but it also keeps him from getting tired of me before I'm back on two feet.  He put this little laundry pouch on my walker so I can carry things around as needed.  I haven't figured out how to get a bowl of soup to my chair yet, though.  LOL!

This little four-legged walker has made it possible for me to move around on one leg for which I am most grateful.

But, ladies, this has reinforced to me the importance of maintaining a strong upper body and core.  If I had not been doing this for several years, I know that I would not have the endurance and strength to hold my weight on my arms.  So please, if you aren't currently doing upper body and core exercises, start NOW!

I heard a song this morning after watching an old 1983 Billy Graham Crusade message on the Holy Spirit. I am praising God for His convicting Holy Spirit who called me to Himself many years ago and baptized me into His family and with the Holy Spirit.
May this beautiful message sung by Carrie Underwood bless your heart today as well.

  1. Bless your heart, Libby...so sorry about your foot surgery. Sounds quite extensive. I'm with you...I hate being on pain meds. and would often rather suffer through than be 'out of my mind'. Oh, my word, that song by Carrie Underwood hits to the core, doesn't it? She is such a talent and I think she should definitely cut a Christian album/CD. Beautiful!

  2. Good morning! Enjoyed this as always. Great answer on number 4! Sorry to hear about your foot, but good thing you got it all taken care of. I too HATE pain meds and get myself off of those as quickly as possible whenever I have found myself on them. Praying for a speedy and complete recovery for you. Your husbands invention for carrying things around is a good one! We were always trying to figure out how mom could carry things around when she was using hers. I made her a little bag that hooked on the front! How I LOVE Carrie Underwood. I could listen to her all day. And I love that song! Enjoy your day!

  4. I do hope your foot heals quickly! I love sister time too. I'm going to see both of mine this weekend, and can't wait for that. We're all spread out, so time together is special. And too short!

  5. Oh, I sure hope your foot heals fast and that you don't have much more pain with it. Also hope your sister doesn't read your blog or she might want to get revenge. LOL

  6. I'm so sorry about your foot. Having recently had surgery myself and dealing with pain meds, I too got off those things quickly as they really mess with your body.

    That's hilarious about your sister!

And, in reading everybody's pet peeves, I'm a little concerned seeing how many I agree with!

  7. Ouch on the pin in your butt....that wasn't very nice. How nice of your sister to help you. I can't imagine being laid up like that. I had to have my arm in a sling for three days and I didn't like it one bit. Hope your doing better and thank you for the reminder. I know that being sick recently I realize that when I feel better I have to get my butt moving and get in shape! Take care and God Bless.
