Friday's Two Week Trip Wrap-up

Thank you for journeying with us on this dream trip of ours.  I trust you have enjoyed sharing some of the highlights along with us.

On Tuesday morning we left Niagara and journeyed south to the top of Lake Erie then went west along Hwy 3 which runs right above the Lake, toward our destination in Leamington, Ontario.
This is a very rural, agricultural area but an interesting drive.
There were so many little fruit and vegetable stands along the way that looked so tempting.  We couldn't resist stopping at this one.

Once we reached Leamington, the lady at the little motel - yes, you read that right, MOTEL with rooms opening off an enclosed parking area right out of the 1950's - couldn't imagine why we would choose Leamington.  There really wasn't much there except this beautiful Lake Erie marina and a great restaurant.  That was reason enough for us.
This happened to be Hubby's birthday and I think he enjoyed his special day.
Wednesday
In 1962, Hubby and three other college buddies attended a Circle K convention in Toronto.  On the way back to Louisiana they made a quick stop at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan.

I have heard about this place for 49 years and this seemed the perfect time for him to return and share it with me.  Although much has changed since then, some of the things he wanted to see again were still there.

The Henry Ford is a large indoor and outdoor history museum complex and a National Historic Landmark.

The founder, the noted automobile industrialist Henry Ford, completed this amazing place in 1927.  Based on his desire to preserve items of historical significance and portray the Industrial Revolution, the museum houses a vast array of exhibits, collections and Americana.

One of the things Hubby remembered seeing was the rocking chair President Abraham Lincoln was sitting in during the production of Our American Cousin at Ford's Theater when he was assassinated on April 14, 1865, and a fragment of Mary's dress.
Another historical collection contains an original George Washington Camp Bed
This is an authentic reproduction of the Wright Brother's Flyer
I did find a 1951 Studebaker like one my family once had.
There were planes, locomotives, steam engines, civil rights historical items including the bus Rosa Parks rode.
There was a room of nothing but early pieces of pewter and sterling silver.
There was more than we could possibly see in a day's time.

Thursday, we went back and spent the day in the Greenfield Village.
The whole complex covers 80 acres and I think we walked all of it.
These are just a few highlights.
Henry Ford's childhood home
The Wright Brother's Cycle Shop
This is the actual room behind the shop where the pieces for their flyer were made.
Wright Brother's Family Home
Thomas Edison's workshop
Noel Webster's Home
Home of Robert Frost
The Martha-Mary Chapel Henry had built and named for his mother and mother-in-law.
We particularly enjoyed the craft section of the village.
I was captivated by the glass blowing exhibition
Cleaning the wool and weaving
Art of making Tin items
The early printing press
This artisan was engraving a design on a soft clay pot before firing.
I loved the old covered bridge
I saw my first fall leaf.
And this is exactly how we felt at the end of the day.
It was our anniversary and we celebrated by ordering pizza delivered to our hotel room.  You can't say we don't live on the edge!

This was a great two days and Hubby thoroughly enjoyed revisiting this amazing place.

Friday morning, we excitedly headed southwest to Granger, Indiana where we will spend the next two weeks with our son and his family.

This concludes our two weeks of doing exactly what we wanted to do.

We visited with wonderful friends who in only a few short hours enriched our lives immeasurably.
We shared in the most perfect wedding and union of two of God's most precious people.
We viewed some of the most beautiful scenery and worshiped as we praised God for His creation.
We marveled at how God enabled man to excel beyond one's wildest dreams.
And now, we are reveling in the joy of time spent with family.

Thank you God for your untold blessings!

  1. Good morning! Well I certainly agree. God blessed you with a WONDERFUL trip. Soo much beauty. My hubby would have loved that place with all the historical homes and sights too. You got married on hubby's birthday? That was nice! Again, thanks for showing us all the highlights. I don't travel much (other then to my daughters and we are usually zooming there and zooming back! lol) and so this was all so nice to see. Have a good week-end!

  3. What a wonderful place to visit. I am envious as we have not done much traveling this year. But, once we get in the house then we plan to get back with the program. We are going to Las Vegas in two weeks but we've been there so much, it's not anything new. We're going for a SF Convention.

Beautiful pictures! Continue to enjoy yourselves.
